Occasionally we spot an article that is “doom porn” or “fear porn”. They are choc-full of dire warnings of doom-and-gloom & imminent zombie apocalypse. It’s easy to get caught up in the dread of an uncertain future.

This week’s “Doom Porn” winner – Doomsday Clock moves closer to nuclear holocaust! Arrrrhhhh!!!!

Many doom/fear porn articles give helpful tips on surviving in the woods with just your wits after the SHTF or TEOTWAWKI (google these acronyms if you are unfamiliar). Others are full of gardening advice, tips for living “off the grid”, operating ham radios, fooling facial recognition cameras, surviving power outages, and other sundry fun stuff. Others urge you to buy gold. Or guns. Or beans. Liquor too. Or all of the above.

Are they all just completely nuts (but entertaining reading)?? Nope. Well, some are half nuts, but often they contain good stuff – shouldn’t we all strive to be more independent and be able to survive after natural disasters? So when we find good articles, we will post them here for your entertainment, enlightenment, or just to get your blood pumping (how fast do zombies run, anyway?)

Or, you know, not.

The Doomsday Clock is the worst sort of pseudoscientific claptrap, one given a veneer of respectability by the fact that NOBEL SCIENTISTS are the ones who arbitrarily move the hands on its face closer to, or further away from, midnight, the zero hour, the time when we wipe ourselves from the face of the Earth.

………

And, really, that’s all there is to say about the Doomsday Clock and its reliance on the glamour of the Nobel to give its press conferences any weight: it’s a gussied-up bit of fearmongering, a way for swells to impress upon the dulled masses that the anti-intellectual vulgarian sitting in the White House is a nasty bit of work.

But hey, who am I to question The Science?

……….
